Cozumel is a classic Caribbean cruise stop that many travelers love for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and laid-back island vibe. But, like any popular destination, it has its highs and lows—especially on busy cruise days.

At the Port

If you’re cruising with Carnival, you’ll dock at Puerta Maya, which means a bit of a walk down a long pier before you reach the main terminal and shops. It’s manageable, but definitely worth knowing so you don’t get caught off guard with extra steps. Other cruise lines dock closer to downtown San Miguel, where you can jump into island life a little quicker.

Beaches & Beach Clubs

One of the most famous beach clubs here is Mr. Sancho’s—and trust me, it is not all it cracks up to be. It gets super crowded, especially when multiple ships are in port, so you might find yourself elbow-to-elbow with fellow cruisers. The beach and pools are fun, but the service can feel rushed. Plus, the food and drinks don’t always hit the mark—expect average bites and some drinks that taste watered down and are super sugary.

If you want a calmer vibe, check out Paradise Beach. It’s got a nicer beach, friendlier service, and generally feels less like a bustling party zone. For something even more low-key, Melia Cozumel is a fantastic spot if you’re looking to unwind away from the crowds.

And if you want to stay close to the port, El Cid Marina Beach is convenient—just don’t expect a huge scene.

VIP Dolphinarius Experience

For something truly special, consider the VIP Dolphinarius excursion. It’s an intimate, up-close dolphin experience where you can swim, interact, and learn about these amazing creatures in a more private setting. Perfect if you want a memorable, hands-on encounter that’s a step above the typical dolphin shows.

Must-Try Excursions

One of my favorites to recommend is the Passion Island excursion. It’s a private beach getaway with crystal-clear waters, great snorkeling, and plenty of lounge spots to relax away from the crowds. It feels like a little slice of paradise and is perfect if you want that Instagram-worthy tropical day.

Of course, Cozumel is world-famous for snorkeling and diving, so don’t miss the chance to explore reefs like Palancar or Columbia if you’re up for some underwater adventure.

Food & Drink

I've only ever eaten at Fat Tuesdays, 3 Amigos and the resorts. I'd say to try a local restaurant over any of these options for a better experience.
